The Last Day of Unleavened Bread

A Microcosm of the Saints’ Journey Through Life Today

A Study Outline

I. The Passover was kept by all of Israel to insure they would not be killed by the death angel.  Exodus 12:1-13, 21-28.

We are called, chosen, and baptized out of all the people on earth to be brought from death into life, to be washed clean in the blood of Jesus Christ.

A. The unleavened bread symbolizes Christ’s broken body, and the wine pictures His shed blood for our healing and removal of sin.  Matthew 26:26-28.

B. Christ is the true bread and wine, His life placed in us.John 6:53-58.

C. The white linen we will wear at the marriage supper pictures Christ’s righteousness in us.Revelation 19:8.

D. All deserve death because of sin, but life comes through Jesus Christ.Romans 6:23.

II. For seven days the Israelites journied away from Egypt to a new land of promise, a land flowing with milk and honey.  Exodus 12:14-20.

We escape sin and Satan as the Father and Christ show us the escape route from our previous lives of sin and corruption, protected by Him so Satan cannot touch us.

A. All of Israel gathered from various parts of the Nile Delta, and formed into their tribes and ranks, at a place called Rameses.Exodus 12:37-42.

B. Their journey took them to Succoth, probably on the northern tip of the Gulf of Suez, and from there they headed across the Sinai Desert.Exodus 13:17-22; 14:1-20.

C. The Egyptian army, under Satan’s inspiration, pursued Israel to try and capture them and return them to captivity. Exodus 14:5-9; I Peter 5:8-9.

1. The pillar of fire maintained a separation between Satan’s forces and His chosen people.Exodus 14:19-20.

2. Satan is unable to directly touch us, even though he desperately would like to destroy us.I John 5:18; Luke 22:31-32.

III. The armed forces of Egypt were destroyed in the Red Sea as Israel escaped to the other side.  Exodus 14:21-31.

Satan’s powers are removed from us once we receive His Spirit, and we walk in newness of life.

A. Israel was “baptized” in the Red Sea.I Corinthians 10:1-2.

B. God dwells within the saints after they are baptized and receive His Spirit.John 17:21; Romans 8:7-11.

C. Only by our own deception do we fall into sin.James 1: 13-15.

D. Satan, the accuser of the brethren, is cast out.Revelation 12:10.

E. Jesus Christ many, many times cast out demons from people, even as He does today.Matthew 9:32-33; 12:22; 17:14-18; Mark 5:1-13.

IV. The Israelites journied through the wilderness of Arabia to Mt. Sinai, complaining along the way, to meet with God personally, but were afraid of Him and ultimately fell into idolatry.  Exodus 15:22-24; 16:1-3; 17:1-3; 19:1-6; 32:1-20.

Even though given the law of God within our hearts after leaving sin behind, we still may erect idols within our lives and for a time worship false gods, resulting in our having to drink the bitter fruit that such idols give.

A. We are admonished to not return to our past evil ways.II Peter 2:18-22.

B. One of the cardinal ten commandments states we must avoid idolatry.Exodus 20:3-6.

C. We are forgiven continually of our sins despite our shortcomings if we repent and ask forgiveness.Romans 7:14-25.

V. After refusing to believe that God would safely lead them into the Promised Land beyond the Jordan River and would help them defeat the Canaanite nations, the Israelites had to wonder 40 years until that generation died, before being allowed to enter that Promised Land.Numbers 13:25-33; 14:1-3, 30-35.

To remedy our faithlessness in God to deliver us from even our greatest trials and obstacles, God may require considerable time and “wandering” through this world of rampant sin, its nations of giants and temptations, before He allows us to receive our heavenly reward.

A. Abraham sojourned in a land God showed him, not knowing where he was going, but he went through faith that God gave him.Hebrews 11:8-16.

B. We likewise must run our races with patience “… looking to Jesus, the beginner and finisher of our faith ….”Hebrews 12:1-2.

C. During this race we must not grow weary of the correction God gives us, but, like the Israelites during the 40 years’ wandering, continue against whatever odds may come against us.Hebrews 12:5-11.

VI. Israel finally entered the Promised Land, their promised home of peace.  Joshua 3:15-17.

In due time we shall receive our just reward of eternal life in the heavenly realm once the tests of this physical life have passed.

A. These tests, through seemingly very difficult and fiery at the time, will pale into nothingness compared to the glory we will experience as spirits.I Peter 1:7; Romans 8:18.

B. Our bodies will put on incorruptibility.I Corinthians 15:49-58.

C. Once spirits we will wage war, even as the Israelites fought with the occupiers of Canaan and destroyed them.Revelation 19:11-14, 19-21; 20:1-3.

VII.  The spirit realm will be purified, and the saints will reign with Christ for 1,000 years.  Revelation 20:4.
